Pinch-off of viscoelastic particulate suspensions

چکیده
Using high-speed imaging, the different stages of drop detachment from a capillary are studied for viscoelastic suspension spherical particles dispersed in dilute polymer solution. The dynamics can be rationalized by recognizing contributions and make to properties solution way these effects influence time scales deformation breakup process.

Autocatalytic plume pinch-off.
A localized source of buoyancy flux in a nonreactive fluid medium creates a plume. The flux can be provided by either heat, a compositional difference between the fluid comprising the plume and its surroundings, or a combination of both. For autocatalytic plumes produced by the iodate-arsenous acid reaction, however, buoyancy is produced along the entire reacting interface between the plume and...
متن کاملGiant bubble pinch-off.
Self-similarity has been the paradigmatic picture for the pinch-off of a drop. Here we will show through high-speed imaging and boundary integral simulations that the inverse problem, the pinch-off of an air bubble in water, is not self-similar in a strict sense: A disk is quickly pulled through a water surface, leading to a giant, cylindrical void which after collapse creates an upward and a d...

Subclavian venous catheterization was previously frequently performed, but because of life-threatening complications such as hemothorax, pneumothorax, mediastinal hematoma, and myocardial injury, its use has become less common. However, this practice has some advantages in patient mobility, secured dressing, and rapidity and adequacy of vascular access. In some situations where patient comfort ...
متن کاملContact-aware simulations of particulate Stokesian suspensions
We present an efficient, accurate, and robust method for simulation of dense suspensions of deformable and rigid particles immersed in Stokesian fluid in two dimensions. We use a well-established boundary integral formulation for the problem as the foundation of our approach. This type of formulation, with a high-order spatial discretization and an implicit and adaptive time discretization, hav...
متن کاملThe Spatial Structure of Bubble Pinch-Off
We have previously found [J. Eggers, M. A. Fontelos, D. Leppinen, and J. H. Snoeijer, Phys. Rev. Lett., 98 (2007), 094502] that the pinch-off of a gas bubble in an inviscid environment is controlled by scaling exponents which are slowly varying in time. To leading order, these results did not require the spatial profile of the interface near break-up. Here we refine our previous analysis by com...
